Why Mini Sheepadoodles?

Miniature sheepadoodles are a great option for people who want a non-shedding dog, but want a dog a bit bigger than a Havanese. A traditional mini sheepadoodle is a cross between a toy or miniature poodle father, and an Old English Sheepdog mother. I use a Havanese father rather than a poodle father. Havanese don't have the long pointy nose of a poodle, so the more traditional look of an Old English Sheepdog, with the blunter muzzle, is preserved. Havanese also tend to be a bit calmer than poodles, so the puppies will get a more relaxed temperament. Purebred Old English Sheepdogs can be very large dogs, sometimes up to 100 pounds, so the miniature sheepadoodle breed is a nice way to get a dog that has the look of a sheepdog without the space and exercise requirements that come with a giant dog.

Sheepadoodles are dogs that will need daily exercise especially the first couple years, but they don't have the stamina to go on a 10 mile run with you. Maybe more like a 2 mile run! My mini sheepadoodles mature around 20-30 pounds, but the size of cross-bred dogs is more unpredictable than purebred dogs. My mini sheepadoodles are smaller than other mini sheepadoodles you will find, as both Molly and George are very small for their breeds. Sheepadoodles are smart, easy to train, gentle, active and friendly. They are typically great with kids. Like their Old English Sheepdog mom, they love to snuggle preferably on top of their people.

Sheepadoodles do not shed so they need regular haircuts, or their hair will mat. I typically cut my dogs' hair about every 3-4 months, although some people do haircuts less often for the classic shaggy sheepdog look.
